Learn to Play Guitar & Ukulele

Dayve Huckett, guitar instructor, performing with a young student

My goal is to teach you what YOU want to learn. I believe that by learning music you actually like, you can cover the basics of music!

Music is in all of us, and once you learn how it will be with you for life.

My Approach to Teaching

“Silence is the canvas on which we paint.”
—Livingston Taylor

I start with the basics of the guitar or ukulele to build upon and answer every question and encourage more questions. It is more effective for the students to express the musical direction they prefer, be it Bach, Beatles, folk, rock, country, acoustic or electric. Students will practice more if they like the music they’re playing.

I encourage students to start writing their own songs. Working on original material is very rewarding.

It’s great to watch my students learn. Seeing a student “get it” is the reward of a lifetime!

Student Testimonials

My daughter had been taking in-person lessons with Dayve for over a year when he moved out-of-state and suggested continuing with remote lessons. We decided to try, because she’d developed such a nice relationship with Dayve and was making such progress with her guitar—but I honestly wasn’t sure how it would work. As it turns out, we’ve loved the remote lessons! My daughter has continued to grow as a guitarist and to love her lessons with Dayve. I don’t know how he does it, but Dayve seems able to teach music equally well online as in person, and it’s actually worked even better with my daughter’s busy school schedule. We just signed up for another year of remote lessons!

‘You don’t need to practice—just play!’ I was hesitant to take remote lessons but decided to give it a try. Dayve’s gentle, encouraging style has made me feel that I can just about play anything on the ukulele! His philosophy of teaching you what you want to play has been very effective. My skills have improved but it’s my confidence that has blossomed. Dayve is a gifted teacher and taking lessons remotely has been easy!

I have been a guitar student with Dayve since second grade and it has been wonderful! He is such a kind and supportive person and has always kept me excited to learn through in-person learning, remote learning, in-person learning, and then remote learning again! Even working across time zones, Dayve brings his contagious enthusiasm to every lesson and continues to teach students the beauty of music. Mr. Dayve, thank you for always encouraging me to pursue new horizons of music and bringing joy to every lesson!
